Mary Hynes-Martyn's Story

I am a breast cancer survivor and Mama to 2 little girls. I was diagnosed on January 30, 2019 at 28 weeks into my second pregnancy. I underwent a lumpectomy at 30 weeks pregnant and had a c-section at 35 weeks so I could start treatment two weeks post partum.
I am delighted to be an ambassador for 100K in 30 days. When starting my cancer journey, I hadn’t encountered many stories about navigating cancer while pregnant and hope my experience will help others, raising much needed funds for Breast Cancer Ireland.

Every 29 seconds someone is diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Over 3500 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually in Ireland, One of areas we are funding is education programmes which will help with early detection, which is key.

23% of all women diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland are between 20-50 years of age

We are trying to research a cure, Can you help us?

Proceeds from the event will help to fund life-saving research and the provision of good breast health education and awareness programmes nationwide by Breast Cancer Ireland, who plan to channel funds raised by the #PinkArmy through the event this year into 3 specific areas, namely:

1. Equipment for a new state-of-the-art Clinical Trial Centre due to open at Beaumont Hospital in June

2. The Shamrock Trial – a new clinical trial into Her2+ breast cancer with results released worldwide

3. Research Nurses - supporting specialist breast research nurses in the eight designated cancer centres across the country

4. Triple-Negative breast cancer research - led by Dr Paul Mullan, from the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research at Queens University Belfast.
