Jenny Byrne's Story

My cancer journey begins with the 2021 100k in 30 days! I was turning 49 that year and thinking of my late mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 49. I wanted to do something in her memory and was so proud to raise money for such an important cause. Little did I know a few months later I would be diagnosed with the same cancer as my mother at the same age. Thankfully my mother had made myself and my sisters promise that we would get yearly mammograms and breast checks after turning 30 and my cancer was found early - when it was only 1.5mm and hadn't embedded. After intense treatment and surgery I am happy to say I'm cancer free and it's all thanks to my mothers legacy. Unfortunately my mother wasn't so lucky and lost her journey at the age of 54. My story only has a different ending thanks to the advancements made in cancer research and that's why it is so important to me to raise as much funds as possible. WHY DONATE?

Every 29 seconds someone is diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Over 3500 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually in Ireland, One of areas we are funding is education programmes which will help with early detection, which is key.

23% of all women diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland are between 20-50 years of age

HOW WE INVEST YOUR DONATION?

Proceeds from the event will help to fund life-saving research and the provision of good breast health education and awareness programmes nationwide by Breast Cancer Ireland, who plan to channel funds raised by the #PinkArmy through the event this year into 3 specific areas, namely:

1. Equipment for a new state-of-the-art Clinical Trial Centre due to open at Beaumont Hospital in June

2. The Shamrock Trial – a new clinical trial into Her2+ breast cancer with results released worldwide

3. Research Nurses - supporting specialist breast research nurses in the eight designated cancer centres across the country

4. Triple-Negative breast cancer research - led by Dr Paul Mullan, from the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research at Queens University Belfast.

100k will send the donations you've raised online for Breast Cancer Ireland on a weekly basis.

After you make a donation, you will automatically receive donation receipt to the email you've given when making donation.

We currently don’t accept cash payments . Bank Transfer, Cheque and Credit Card payment are the methods of payments we can accept.
